Children don't know their rights or don't know them well enough. We observe this repeatedly in our daily advisory work. For this to change, children's rights must be explained in a simple, age-appropriate and attractive way for children. This is exactly where the children's rights app KIDIMO from OST Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences and Lucerne University of Teacher Education (PH Lucerne) comes in: With KIDIMO, children from age 7 immerse themselves in the three worlds of protection, promotion and participation rights and explore their rights through puzzles, hidden picture games and short clips.
KIDIMO was launched two years ago. We at the Ombuds Office Children's Rights Switzerland have been able to accompany the project as a professional partner from the very beginning. The app is free and available in German, Italian and French. It is continuously developed and expanded in terms of content. Recently, a scene about the rights of children in healthcare was added, which was created in collaboration with the association Kind+Spital. Further content, such as the topic of disabilities, is also planned to represent additional life realities.
In addition to the app, the project team has also developed comprehensive accompanying materials that can be used by professionals working with children. The teaching units designed for school lessons are also aligned with Curriculum 21.
How the OST project team looks back on the development of the app and how KIDIMO's journey should continue, you can learn in the following video:
