Government Councillor Jacqueline Fehr advocates for children’s rights

15 May 2025

A huge thank you to Government Councillor Jacqueline Fehr, the Department of Justice and Home Affairs of the Canton of Zurich and the Canton of Zurich for their commitment to strengthening children’s rights!

The added value and benefit that the national, independent and low-threshold Ombuds Office Children’s Rights Switzerland brings to society is widely recognised. The federal government and various cantons rely on the knowledge of our experts when it comes to children’s rights. Children, adolescents and young adults across 23 cantons use our legal advisory and intermediary services. The Canton of Zurich is also committed to child-friendly justice.

Jacqueline Fehr’s department is working to ensure that young people do not suffer any harm during legal proceedings. She explains why this makes the Ombuds Office Children’s Rights Switzerland’s services so vital within the justice system:

  • Children and young people can exercise their rights during proceedings and express their needs and concerns.

  • There is a need for an independent authority that can step in when there are problems relating to children’s rights.

  • There is a need for a child-friendly legal advisory and intermediary service for complex proceedings.

Together, we are committed to ensuring that children's rights really matter within the justice system.
